The Truth Revealed

After School

Yumi saw Toshio sitting there on the bench and called out to him. "Toshio!" She called. He smiled and waved her over. She sat down beside him and smiled. "It feels good out here." She said. "Yeah." He replied. Yumi paused, in thought, wondering if she should bring this up. "Um...Toshio-san." Yumi faltered. "Hmmn?" he coaxed her to continue. "Earlier you wanted to tell me something. You can tell me now if you want." Toshio looked thoughtful for a moment. "Alright. Yesterday was the three-year anniversary of Miyabi's mother’s death. He told me he came to school only so no one would suspect something was wrong. Here he was trying to forget about that day, and then he ran into you. You made the day he wanted to forget into something everyone would remember." Toshio finished. "God, I didn’t know." Yumi said softly. "That’s what I told him. I told him he should let it go. But he said that he couldn’t." Unfortunately, at that moment Miyabi showed up wondering where Toshio was. He was about o call out when he saw them. Toshio was sitting with her. All of a sudden, she started crying. Way to go, Toshio, Miyabi cheered in his mind. The cheer died as Toshio hugged Yumi to himself and started rocking her. What the f***?! (Out of respect for Emi being a "good girl" I have replaced the letters with stars. ^_^)
"Shhh." Toshio crooned to Yumi, while wondering at the feel of her in his arms. "I’m so sorry!" Yumi sobbed, loud enough even for Miyabi to hear from around the side of the building where he was hiding. "It’s OK. You didn’t know." Toshio said softly. "If I had known that it was his mother’s death anniversary, I never would’ve ran down the hall!" sobbed Yumi, still loud enough for Miyabi to hear." I know, I know." Toshio murmured as he pressed his lips against Yumi’s hair. Miyabi decided this had gone far enough. He walked back a few feet and yelled out, "TOSHIO!!" Yumi and Toshio jerked apart, and Yumi wiped away her tears. As Miyabi stepped pass the edge of the building, Yumi shot up, ran over to him, and impulsively hugged him. Miyabi was surprised for a moment. "I’m so, so, so, sorry." Yumi whispered against his chest. Miyabi’s arms slid around her waist and hugged her to him. "It’s OK. Toshio was right. I need to let it go.  I’m sorry for being such a son of a b****." He said as he laid his cheek on the top of her head. "No apology is needed. Now I can understand why you were so mad." She looked up. "You aren’t mad at Toshio for telling me, are you?" Miyabi shook his head. "No." Yumi smiled and hugged him closer. Miyabi Looked at Toshio over Yumi’s head. He thought Toshio looked kind of sad as he looks at Yumi. As Toshio looked at Miyabi, Miyabi mouthed "Thank you." Toshio smiled, got up and walked away. "C’mon," he said to Yumi. "I’ll walk you home.
As they were about to walk out the gate on to the sidewalk, Akito and Shuya showed up. "Hey, Miyabi! Where ya going?" Akito yelled. "I’m walking Yumi home. I’ll be back. Go practice or somethin’." Miyabi said while he waved them off. Then, surprising Akito, Shuya, and Yumi, he put his arm around Yumi’s waist and started walking down the street. "Well, I’ll be d***ed." Shuya said softly. "Toshio can’t be happy about that." said Akito. Meanwhile, Yumi was thinking, Maybe this school isn’t so bad after all.
